Elegant Dinner party

This was the theme of this week's Recipe card challenge on Julie's recipe card challenge blog.  I'm really not the elegant dinner party kind of gal so this was a challenge for me.  Both in the recipe and in the creation of the card.  But this is supposed to be about making it a challenge, right?

This is a delicous recipe that I had at a friend's party.  It makes a great meal of it's own.  Just have some fruit, breadstick and/or salad and you're set!  This would be great for an elegant ladies luncheon! Here is the recipe:

D’Amico Chicken Salad

1 box Rotini pasta - cook according to package

2 cups cooked and diced chicken or turkey

1 cup dried cherries

6 chopped green onions

4 diced celery stalks

1 cup whole toasted almonds

Combine above ingredients together

Dressing:

1/4 cup powdered sugar

2 TBSP white wine vinegar

Combine sugar and vinegar, mix thouroughly

Whisk in 2 cups real mayonaise

  2 TBSP cold water

  2 TBSP poppy seeds

  2 teasp. salt

  1/2 teasp black pepper

Pour over pasta.

My Messy Craft Room

This week's challenge on the Scrap and Stamp blog is to scrap the place where you create.  I have to admit that I did cringe a little bit when I heard we had to take pictures of where we created. My husband built me a beautiful craft room just before Christmas a couple of years ago.  He finished up just before we were hosting Christmas so I had to just shove things back in my craft room.  Ever since then I have made many attempts at cleaning and organizing it but I never get it completely clean.  Poor guy wants me to take pictures and show everyone his handiwork but it's never presentable enough to take photos.  I took a photo of the spot where i do most of my creating.  The rest of the room is going to have to wait until another time.

This week's sponsor is Rusty Pickle.  The challenge is to stamp on chipboard and scrap the place where you create.  The large curved arrow and the scallop circle are chipboard pieces from Rusty Pickle.  I dabbed the arrow with Cameo Coral craft ink.  After it was dry I stamped with a retired Stampin' Up! alphabet the "my messy" in chocolate chip craft ink. I finished off the arrow with some glitz frosting on the point of the arrow.  The base of the page is some retired tan confetti cardstock from Stampin' Up!  the designer paper is from My Minds Eye.  On the circle scallop I covered the inner circle with so saffron craft ink. The outer circle is coverd with Ruby Red craft ink.  After it dried I stamped it with a small circle from Circle Circus in chocolate chip ink on each scallop.  The flower is from My Minds Eye.  The "craft room" letters are my Sizzix Go Go Boots.  I die cut them in chocolate chip cardstock and covered them with crystal effects.  the page is finished off with a strip of Glitz frosting underneath the letters.

Too much fun at the BBQ

Every year my family and and I host our annual end of year Summer bbq on the Saturday after Labor day weekend.  This year will be our 20th!  Do you know the sad thing?  I always forget to take photos!  This year I plan to wear the camera around my neck so I don't forget!  I have this page all ready to go for some photos.  This is also another page for my scrapbook class on Wednesday night.

 

The only stamps on this one is the little heart stamped on the apron journaling block.

A Day at the Zoo

I'm having a scrapbook class on Wednesday. Participants get to choose to do 1 layout, 2 layouts, or all 3.  This Zoo page is one of the choices.

The pictures are from my family's visit to the San Diego Zoo during our California vacation 2 years ago.  The day started out a little rough with my youngest, Sam, not wanting to go to the zoo.  Can you imagine?  He was having a little trouble with the fast pace we were keeping trying to hit all of the sights we could while in California.  After a bit of cajoling we got Sam to come around and we all enjoyed the day!

It's never too early for Halloween!

Halloween is right up there with Christmas in favorite holidays for me.  When given the Scrap and Stamp challenge of making a page with a holiday theme, other than Christmas, it wasn't hard for me to choose.

I wanted to put a border around the designer paper but didn't want to use the scallop border or eyelet border punch.  Those would be too frilly for this page.  So I punched around all four sides with my spiral edge punch.  This is the border punch I use when making a masculine card or something less frilly.  I love the result of this!

Shoebox Swap

A little while back I posted the challenge swaps that my downline anddid at our mini convention at the end of July.  In addition we did shoebox swaps during the day.  A shoebox swap is where you make 1 complete card and then cut all of the cardstock and other supplies so that everyone else can make your card.  You get to go around and make everyone else's too.  Lots of fun!  Here are the shoebox swaps from this day.

Flower Inspired

This week's challenge on the Recipe card challenge blog was to create a recipe card with a recipe that has flowers in it or a card that has flowers in it.  I opted for the recipe card with flowers on it.

I have these recipes that I want to try that I used for my recipe card.  They are Cilantro-Lime Rice and Black Beans.  They kind of go together so I made a pocket on my recipe card so I could tuck the second one in there.  The cardstock is Kiwi Kiss, Old Olive, Whisper White, and Melon Mambo(tag) from Stampin' Up!.  The designer paper and strip of glittered flowers going across is the Carolyn Gavin line by K&Co.  The layered flower is also by K&Co.
