Boy Birthday Invitations

Even though we still have my daughter's friend birthday party tomorrow night, I have to start planning my youngest' birthday for next Friday night.  Sam is turning 10.  He is very excited that everyone in the house will be double digits!  He's also excited because at age 10 is when we let our kids have their first sleepover birthday party.  I made the invitations and mailed them out this week for his sleepover birthday party.  Sam took skateboarding camp last summer so he likes this stamp. He also loves skulls so this Halloween paper worked great.

They're pretty simple but that's what you need when mass producing.

Recipe:  Extreme Skateboard, Sincere Salutations

Ink:  Basic Black

Paper:  Basic Black, Confetti White, Old Olive, Cast-a-Spell

Other:  Wide Oval PUnch, stampin' dimensionals

Origami Box tutorial at last!

Well after some trial and error I finally have the Origami box video tutorial for you!  I tried and tried to get captions on the video so I could put measurements on for you but i couldn't get it to work.  Then I couldn't get the whole thing in one video so I have it as two parts.

Origami Box Video tutorial part 1:

 

 

I have the measurements here for you if you didn't catch them on the video:

1 piece of cardstock 11 7/8 x 8 3/4

Coordinating cardstock: Two pieces(2 7/8 x 2 7/8), Six pieces(1 1/4 x 2 3/4)

Designer Paper: Two pieces(2 3/4 x 2 3/4), Six pieces(1 1/8 x 2 5/8)

With the 8 3/4 part of the cardstock at the top of your paper cutter score at 2 7/8 and 5 7/8

Turn your cardstock a quarter turn so that the 11 7/8 side of your cardstock is at the top of your paper cutter.  Score at 1 1/2 and 4 1/2 from each end.  Score at 2 1/2" from the top of your cardstock to the first score line and from the bottom up to the first score line. Do this on both ends. 

Cut along the score lines that are at the 2 1/2 down to the first score line on both ends and the top and bottom.  Also cut along the cardstock between the 1 1/2 and 4 1/2 score line.  This is what your cardstock should look like now.

 

Fold along all the score lines.  Put tacky strip along two flaps on one side of the middle square.  Fold the flaps in to meet.  This is what your box should look like now.

Put adhesive on the back of the small flaps and bring them in to meet the edge of the cardstock on all four sides.  This is what your box should look like now.

   All you need to do is decorate your box with the designer paper and cardstock and place brads at the top with cord wrapped around to keep it closed.

I hope that makes sense! I got the original directions from Martha Stewart, a Stampin' Up! demonstrator from Florida.  The directions were posted on the demonstrator website but I couldn't find them again.  Let me know if you have any questions.   

 

I love chocolate!!!

Floating in my Head

I had this card floating around in my head for about a week.  I finally had time to take the idea and make it yesterday.  I was really pleased with the results!  This card is inspired by this card from LeeAnn. For some reason I immediately thought of this owl.

Just because Valentine's day is over doesn't mean I'm going to stop using this stamp set.  No siree!

Recipe:  Stamps: Love Bandit, Trendy Trees(sentiment)

Ink:  Chocolate Chip

Paper:  Whisper White, Chocolate Chip, Bermuda Bay, Real Red, More Mustard, Not Quite Navy

Other:  3/4" circle punch, word window punch, modern label punch, silver brads, stampin' dimensionals, corner rounder

Casino Invites

I hope you all had a wonderful Valentine's day.  We had a family birthday party for my daughter.  Now we are planning her big friend's party.  Yes, she is STILL celebrating her 16th birthday.  She's soaking it for all it's worth!  This is the last year she will have a family party and an official kid's party so she's doing it up big.  All of her friends are big into their 16th birthday parties this year.  Each one has done a different theme.  We agonized and agonized over what to do.  She wants her guy and girl friends to come so that makes it a little tougher.  We finally settled on a Casino party.  These are the simple invitations that I made for them today.

These are based on the layout from Dawn's fruit cards here. I used the Game Night stamp set, The Sincere Salutations greeting stamp set, Real Red polka dot ribbon, black wide striped ribbon and lots of stampin' dimensionals.  These came together pretty quickly.

Happy Valentine's Day

I had a busy stamping day yesterday.  My daughter made her Confirmation last night.  I almost bought a card.  *gasp*.  That would have been the first time in 5 years I bought a card.  I decided to make do with what I had.  I have a cross stamp that I picked up from somewhere.  I made a very simple card for my daughter.

A combination of dry embossing and traditional embossing did the trick.

Next up I completed the Valentines for my two boys' classes.  They gave the boys in the class the robot boxes from Stampin' Up!'s mini catalog.  Couldn't be more simple.  Just fold on the score lines and assemble. 

 For the girls in the class I made the mini milk carton dies.  The handle idea came from Jan Tink.  Thanks Jan!

And for my son's male teacher we made an origami box filled with chocolate.

I'm still working on a tutorial for the origami box.  I shot a video but it's long - 15 minutes.  My daughter thought it might still load on Youtube but I'm not sure.  I'm also struggling with getting words on it so that I can give measurements for the project but don't know how.  I may have to go without. As soon as I have this all figured out I will share it with you.

My daughter wanted some Valentines for her friends.  So I made up these boxes filled with some cinnamon candy.

We're getting a significant amount of snow today in Minnesota.  Not the 2 feet that Washington D.C. got but enough to make it a pain to get around.  We are so done with the cold and snow here.  Unfortunately, the cold and snow are not done with us!  We better have a great Spring to make up for all of this!  Oh well.  It might be a good day to make some more video tutorials.  What do you think?

My youngest, Sam, had a birthday party to go to this weekend.  He asked his friend what he wanted and he named a video game that was a wee bit out of our price range.  We decided to give him money towards the game instead.  I've never been a big fan of giving money for presents.  It takes no thought or imagination.  I know kids and adults like getting money for gifts but it's just not very memorable.  That's why I always like to jazz up gift cards or money with interesting packaging.  For his gift we made him an Origami box.  It's made with one piece of 12 x 12 cardstock.  There's a lot of cutting and scoring but it's really not that difficult.  The results are pretty wow though.  We filled the box with candy surrounding his money.  Candy always makes things more interesting!

We made these Origami boxes in stamp club this month.  Here's a few more samples:

She's 16

It's hard for me to believe but today is my daughter Rebecca's 16th birthday.  I am so proud of her!  She's a great student, loyal friend, kind-hearted person, funny, and genuine.  The time goes so fast with our children doesn't it?  I'm trying to cherish the moments.

i'm taking her and her two best friends to the Melting Pot tonight.  Yum!  My husband gets to stay home and eat pizza with our two boys.  I dont' think they would appreciate the Melting Pot.  Well, maybe my husband would but not my boys.  We will have more celebrations throughout the month for her.  We will have the family party and then later in the month she's having a guy/girl party with all of her friends at our house.  It's tough not to spoil her.

I do have a card to share too.  This is a card we did last night in stamp club.  The flower is made by punching 7 circle scallops in Bordering Blue and then crinkling them all up. Unfold the scallops and then add a basic black flower from the Birds and Blooms Sizzix set with a Real Red cordurouy brad through the middle of all of the layers.  Then form the flower the way you want it.

 

Stinky Sweet Valentine box

Hey there!  Long time no chat.  I've just been busy with my family.  I haven't made it into my stamp room much in the last week either.  I want to share with you today a Valentine treat box I made as a gift to those who came to my Open House in January.  I got the idea for the punch art skunk from Mercedes here.

The little treat box is a Stampin' Up! exlusiveSizzix die, Bitty box and envelope.  What's cool about this die is that the envelopes fit inside the box!  But I filled the box with cinnamon candies.

The skunk is made with punch art.  Here is what I used:

punches:  Ornament punch(head), small oval punch, 1/2" circle punch, Wide oval punch, large oval punch, heart to heart punch
