Vintage Blues

I have been struggling my way back from my missing mojo.  Vintage isn't usually my style but it's really growing on me.  I thought I would try my hand at a simple vintage card.  This one uses this beautiful set from the Occasions mini catalogue called Vintage Vogue.

 

Recipe: Stamps:  Vintage Vogue, Whimsical Words(Sale-a-bration Free product!)

Ink:  Not quite Navy, So Saffron, Garden Green

Paper:  Krafts, Very Vanilla, Not Quite Navy, Bella Bleu designer paper

Other:  So Saffron narrow grosgrain ribbon, eyelet border punch, jumbo brad

The kids are on spring break this week.  It's supposed to be in the 70's and sunny.  I LOVE this weather!

Raspberry Resist

I have lost my mojo.  We all go through this at times.  I tell my customers that stamping is like a muscle.  If you work it often, you'll get good results. If you haven't done it for awhile, it is going to be painful.  Well, I am in the painful stage.  Even being away from it a week has been tough.  I have been caseing other's work but it hasn't been flowing for me.  I did come up with this card.

The gems are from the no longer available Easter Egg kit from Stampin' Up! The butterfly is from the hugely popular Butterfly Embosslit.  It is on backorder for an indeterminite amount of time.  I need a card for a party on doing tonight so I cam up with an alternative card.

The main piece is done by running some Whisper White cardstock through my Big Shot with the Finial Press embossing folder.  Once your cardstock is embossed turn it over to the WRONG side and brayer over it with Rich Razzleberry ink.  The ink resists where the "dips" in the embossing are.

Birthday Cupcake

We wrapped up the last of the birthday parties for my kids this weekend.  My middle son, Nick, had his 12th birthday party celebration with ten 12 year old boys sleeping over.  It went pretty well all considering.  Boys are so different than girls.  No drama but there were a few broken things.  The damage report is a broken DSI stylus, a broken key on the keyboard, and a broken button on the gamecube controller.  I can live with those damages.  12 year old boys are just plain hard on stuff.  I think it gets worse as they get older. 

 
This is Nick with one of his presents.  He said he got everything he wanted for his birthday.  That always makes you feel good!   

I feel so free now that the birthday parties are done.  I feel like I can stamp again!  Yippee!  To celebrate I made this cute cupcake card.  I used this fun card layout from Ann of theStampin' Schach.

I used fun foam and designer paper with the cupcake die.  The sizzlits are only supposed to cut through paper but I find they cut through fun foam easily.  The fun foam is glued to the back of the designer paper to give the cupcake some dimension.  I love dimension!

Anything But a Card Class

I taught a Community Ed class with my sister on Tuesday night called Anything But a Card to a fun group of ladies in New Prague.  There's so many things you can do besides make cards with your papecraft supplies. The first one is a simple coaster frame.  Once you have photos on it you can add punched flowers or other embellishments to jazz it up.

Next up is a pencil pouch with a matching bookmark made from a jumbo paper clip.

The final project is the envelope scrapbook.  The pockets started out as #10 size envelopes.  They were trimmed down and designer paper was adhered to them to dress them up.  The envelopes serve as pockets for additional journaling or photos.  These envelope scrapbooks can be used to showcase photos of your children, grandchildren, a vacation. a birthday, or other occasion.  It's light and easy to carry along with you to show to other people.

Recipe club cards

My favorite club I'm doing right now is Recipe club!  It's a recipe exchange with a twist.  My hostess provides me with 3 recipes and I create the recipe cards around them.  Here are some of the cards from past clubs:

It's fun but challenging to come up with the cards to match the recipes!  All three of these recipe cards use designer paper from the Sweet Pea designer paper pack in the Occasions mini catalog.  This is such a versatile pack of paper! Yummy cupcake

I finally had a chance to try out my friend, Alex's sketch that she posted on Stampin' Connection.  Stampin' Connection is a fabulous demonstrator only website.  Here is her sketch.

And here is my card using this sketch:

I flipped the sketch to make it work with my image.  I stamped my image on Stampin' Up!'s watercolor paper.  This is really the BEST stuff to color on!  I started out with Stampin' write markers and then pulled the color out with my aquapainter.  The frosting is done by painting monomulti glue in the outlined frosting area, sprinkling dazzling diamonds glitter over it and then heating it with my embossing gun.  Be careful not to heat too long!  Just until it starts to bubble.  The outline of the cupcake is done with my Sahara Sand marker and then softened and blended out with my aquapainter.

Double Digits

My youngest, Sam, turned 10 on Sunday.  He couldn't wait to turn 10 because then everyone in the family would be double digits!  Sam had the most random list of presents on his Wish list for his birthday.  Among the things on this list were Harry Potter movies, an SD card, a Vikings Jersey and a ....loom.  Loom?  Yep, that's right!  It seems they are doing some weaving in school with a tapestry loom and Sam was really enjoying it.  So I ordered a Loom online but it hadn't arrived in time for this birthday.  This is a picture of him opening the present with the picture of the loom letting him know it was on it's way.

 

Sam had some friends over Friday night to celebrate his birthday and he had both of us parents to himself on Saturday night.  His brother and sister had other obligations so we took Sam to Olive Garden.  It was such a nice and rare opportunity to focus just on Sam!

We are having a family party for Sam and his brother Nick this Friday.  They both have March birthdays.  Then it's on to Nick's birthday party.  I made the invitations for Nick's party today.  Again, they needed to be quick and simple since I had 10 to make.  I used the stamp set, Beware of Pirates.  This is the first stamp set I had to have when the new catalog came out last July.  I'm sad to say that this is the first time I inked it up!  There is something about the rustic-ness of the stamp and the fact that it should work great for all of the boy cards and scrapbook pages I will be making.  Here are Nick's invitations.

I inked the main image up in Soft Suede ink.  Then I crumpled up the paper and brushed the edges with the Soft Suede ink pad.  I did the same with the greeting.  The base of the card is Not Quite Navy.  I brushed the edges with the Not Quite Navy ink pad.

Bunny Bag

I ran across a cute bunny treat bag on Rosemary's blog last year.  Since it's coming up to Easter again I thought it was time to finally try this myself.  I tweaked mine a little bit.  I'm calling this a CAT(Copy and Tweak).  Maybe I've just coined a new phrase.  We made this in stamp club last night and it was a hit!

This is made with Stampin' Up!'s Bag with Scallops Sizzix die and punches.

Recipe: 

Paper:  Pretty in Pink, Whisper White, Regal Rose, Basic Black, dp from the Love Sparkles Simply Scrappin kit(gotta use up every last scrap of this delish kit!)

Punches: Wide Oval(tummy), Large Oval(ears), small oval(inside of ears, arms, and feet, 3/4" circle punch(eyes), 1/2" circle punch(eyes and nose), 1/4" circle punch(toes on feet)

Other:  Stampin' Dimensionals, Sticky Strip, mini glue dots, Bag with scallops Sizzix die, Uniball white gel pen

Raspberry Owls

I wanted to play a little bit in my craft room last night.  I went searching for a good card sketch as a starting point.  I found this one on Mojo Monday sketch blog.

I placed this piece of designer paper from the Raspberry Lemonade paper pack in my large circle big shot die.  I cut the sides straight so that just one end was cut in a semi circle.  I punched a strip of Taken with Teal cardstock with the eyelet border punch.  I then distressed it back and forth with my bone folder.  I can't find my paper crimper so I cut triangles in each scallop to make it bend a little easier around the curve.  I attached this with sticky strip. I blended the color with my ink pads and a versamarker instead of a blender pen.  It is so smooth!  I really prefer this method of coloring.  Just be sure to use stazon so the outlined image doesn't bleed.
