Halloween Redo

This is the first of my Makeover Monday cards where I take a card from my sample pile and update it with current product and perhaps a tweak to the design.  This card is a clever Halloween card my friend Kristina made years ago.  I love how the inside opens up to the circle windows and popped up images and the bottom two circles are on the main base of the card.

Here is the updated card using the Freaky Friends stamp set from the current Holiday catalog and that fun ribbon!  I also tweaked the design and simplified it.

Treat Holder with Two Tags Die

When I was preparing for stamp club this month I was making all kinds of different projects with the Two Tags Sizzix die from Stampin' Up!  I didnt' realize how versatile this die is!  Here is one of the projects we madethis month:

It is a treat holder made by adhering two of the tags together. Inside I put 3 Hershey nuggets.  Here is a side view:

It is so quick and easy I decided to make these for my Bunko group on Tuesday.  I am the hostess and these will be the perfect touch!

Chicken punch art

At long last I have the chicken punch art I have been promising.  I made this recipe card for my recipe club. The chicken was made using the Pennant builder punch and few others.

This chicken was made using the pennants punch for the body.  I punched the triangle and then rouned the 3 corners with a 3/4" circle punch.  The bird punch is the wing, the daisy Sizzix die is the tail feathers and the rest uses the Boho blossom punch. I used the largest blossom and trimmed it for the headpiece, the beak and the waddle.

It's pretty easy.  I hope you enjoy it!

It's pizza and pumpkins for us tomorrow night. We are going to pick out our pumpkins and carve them for Halloween.  Friday night is always pizza night at our house and it fits in with the busy night we have ahead of us!

Cupcake gift card holder

I gave this sweet little gift card holder to my sister for her birthday.  This is such an easy gift card holder.  I have a video tutorial on how to make them here.  I used the new build a cupcake punch  and cupcake stamp set to decorate the outside. The designer paper is leftover from my Christmas pack from the Occasions mini catalog.  I thought it worked well for birthday too.  I made a quick belly band to hold this one closed.

 

You know what was in the gift card holder?  A Stampin' Up! gift card of course!  She's looking forward to spending it!

I was in my craft room creating the recipe cards for my upcoming Recipe club this weekend.  I will have those to share with you in a few days.  I'll get to try out my new camera on my craft projects.

Coffee Cups

I am not a coffee or tea drinker but's it's amazing how much I love the set, Morning Cup!  I made this card for my stamp club and for my shoebox swap with my downline on Monday.  I wanted to create the look of a coffee sleeve so I used some corrugated cardboard.  I have included a video to show you how I made this card.

 

Recipe: Stamps: Morning Cup

Ink:  jet black stazon, early espresso, blushing bride

Paper: early espresso, blushing bride, watercolor paper

Other: corrugated cardboard, early espresso wide striped ribbon, pink taffeta ribbon, linen thread, neutrals buttons, curly label punch, 1 3/4" circle punch, 2 3/8" scallop circle punch, stampin' dimensionals, aquapainter

Shrimp punch art

Earlier in June a few demonstrators in my dowline did a recipe class with me.  We got together on a Friday night and created 10 recipe cards for the class.  My friend Paula, really wanted to do a punch art shrimp.  Usually I case and tweak my punch art but I couldn't find anything out there for a shrimp.  Whoever said necessity is the mother of invention was surely right in this case!  I looked up a stamp of a shrimp and came up with this shrimp punch art.  Paula tweaked it slightly and this her recipe card.

Here's a close up of the shrimp:

Do you want to know how to make the shrimp?  Well I have a few photos for you to explain how I did it.  I tweaked the shrimp slightly once again to allow for use of current punches and colors.

Here are the punches and sizzlit you will need to make the shrimp:

Punch out a large oval punch in Regal Rose allowing for space around the punched out oval on your cardstock.

Go back in with your 1 3/4" circle punch and punch out your shrimp body moving it around so that the head is slightly larger than the tail.

Nest you will round off the two pointed edges with your scissors.

To make the spine of the shrimp punch out two 1/2" circles and one of the circles from the Itty bitty punch pack.  Overlap these on your shrimp body.

Run the Scribbles Sizzlit die through your Big Shot.  You will need to do a little surgery on the Scribbles. Just trim that body piece off.

Next punch one branch of the snowflake.

 
Attach the scribbles with a glue dot to the head, add some googly eyes and attach the snowflake branch for the tail and you are done!

Origami Box tutorial at last!

Well after some trial and error I finally have the Origami box video tutorial for you!  I tried and tried to get captions on the video so I could put measurements on for you but i couldn't get it to work.  Then I couldn't get the whole thing in one video so I have it as two parts.

Origami Box Video tutorial part 1:

 

 

I have the measurements here for you if you didn't catch them on the video:

1 piece of cardstock 11 7/8 x 8 3/4

Coordinating cardstock: Two pieces(2 7/8 x 2 7/8), Six pieces(1 1/4 x 2 3/4)

Designer Paper: Two pieces(2 3/4 x 2 3/4), Six pieces(1 1/8 x 2 5/8)

With the 8 3/4 part of the cardstock at the top of your paper cutter score at 2 7/8 and 5 7/8

Turn your cardstock a quarter turn so that the 11 7/8 side of your cardstock is at the top of your paper cutter.  Score at 1 1/2 and 4 1/2 from each end.  Score at 2 1/2" from the top of your cardstock to the first score line and from the bottom up to the first score line. Do this on both ends. 

Cut along the score lines that are at the 2 1/2 down to the first score line on both ends and the top and bottom.  Also cut along the cardstock between the 1 1/2 and 4 1/2 score line.  This is what your cardstock should look like now.

 

Fold along all the score lines.  Put tacky strip along two flaps on one side of the middle square.  Fold the flaps in to meet.  This is what your box should look like now.

Put adhesive on the back of the small flaps and bring them in to meet the edge of the cardstock on all four sides.  This is what your box should look like now.

   All you need to do is decorate your box with the designer paper and cardstock and place brads at the top with cord wrapped around to keep it closed.

I hope that makes sense! I got the original directions from Martha Stewart, a Stampin' Up! demonstrator from Florida.  The directions were posted on the demonstrator website but I couldn't find them again.  Let me know if you have any questions.   

 

Milk carton tote tutorial

This little mini milk carton Sizzix die from Stampin' Up! has been wildly popular!  I made a tote carrier that will hold four of the mini milk cartons.  Here it is:

The measurements for the cardstock to make the tote are:

Boxes: 2 pieces 6 1/2 x 4 3/4(score 1 1/2 inches around all 4 sides of both pieces)

Handle: 1 piece 4 3/4 x 3 1/4

Giraffe swap card and stamp-a-ma-jig background

I finished up my Wow swaps for a swap group I joined on SCS.  My final WOW card is this giraffe card.

Recipe:
Stamps:  Animal Stories, Circle Circus, Teeny Tiny Wishes
Ink:  Crushed Curry, Dusty Durango, Basic Black
Paper:  Basic Black, Whisper White, Custy Durango, Tall Tales designer paper
Other:  Dusty Durango polka dot ribbon, small oval punch, large oval punch, modern label punch, googlie eye, crystal effects, eyelet border punch, stampin' dimensionals, dusty durango stampin' write marker, stamp-a-ma-jig

When using the Circle Circus stamp set as a background I discovered that one of the open ring stamps in the set fit around this other stamp in the set.  I stamped my circles in crushed curry and dusty durango and stamped over them in black with the open ring stamp using my stamp-a-ma-jig.  It really jazzes it up!

Here are the steps to this background.  It's a little putzy but worth it!

Recipe Challenge#35

For this week's recipe challenge I combined the challenge with a technique called Cracked Glass.  You can view a tutorial for it here.  The recipe challenge this week was to used patterned paper, 1 or more hearts, and ribbon.  Check out what the other gals on the recipe challenge team came up with on Tamara's blog here.

I thought this Sale-a-bration stamp set, Botanical Blooms, lent itself nicely to this technique. 
Recipe:  Stamps:  Botanical Blooms, Short and Sweet
Ink:  Jet Black Stazon, Regal Rose, So Saffron, Certain Celery, Versamark
Paper:  Regal Rose, Basic Black, Delicate Dots designer paper(Sale-a-bration), Whisper White, Certainly celery
Other:  Top note Sizzix die, oval scallop sizzix die, ribbon bundle(sale-a-bration), glassy glaze embossoing powder, heart to heart punch

We did this technique at stamp club last night.  It can be kind of putzy but I think it's worth the effect!

I haven't started on the Valentine's for my kids classes yet.  Yikes!  What is everyone doing this year for Valentine exchanges?
